The Five Settings you need to enable in your internet security software
The Five Settings you need to enable in your internet security software
Setting 1 – Automatic updates
What is the point of having an internet security software program if the software is not updated? This setting automatically downloads new virus and spyware definitions. By far the easiest hassle free way to keep your security software updated.
Setting 2 – Weekly virus scans
Enabling this setting has the software check for viruses and security threats on a weekly basis. Enable this to run once per week, preferably during the night. Monday morning at 3am works for me.
Setting 3 – Firewall on
The firewall prevents unauthorized programs from access the internet, and hackers from accessing your computer. Turn this on in the settings area of you internet security software setup.
Setting 4 – Monthly deep scans
In addition to weekly scans you have the option of enabling monthly deep scans. This scans the files on your computer more deeply than a traditional scan. This takes more time so start it early. Personally I use the first Tuesday of the month, 12:30am.
Setting 5 – Anti-phishing
Security software is setup to detect fake sites on the internet from collecting valuable information from you. Examples include a exact copy of the AOL homepage. The user enters their information and the phishing website keeps a copy of that information.
